The National Political Prisoner Coalition (NPPC) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of human rights through supporting political prisoners in the United States. NPPC is an independent organization with no political affiliation. It is named in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a civil rights leader and advocate for justice who was assassinated on 4 April 1968. ADHRF believes that fostering human rights awareness through education, advocacy, and the dissemination of information is essential for strengthening democracy in the U.S.

ADHRF was founded in 2001 by a group of activists and scholars committed to upholding democratic principles. In 2010, the organization was awarded the Roosevelt Institute Freedom of Speech Award in recognition of its work promoting civil liberties, equality, and democratic participation.

ADHRF is committed to the values enshrined in the U.S. Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and other internationally recognized human rights instruments. The organization works to ensure that human rights in America are protected without discrimination, focusing on issues such as voting rights, police accountability, freedom of expression, and racial justice.

Guided by the belief that systemic injustice and unaddressed rights violations undermine democracy, ADHRF advocates for accountability, transparency, and the recognition of victims of human rights abuses.

The work of ADHRF is made possible through the support of private foundations, individual donors, and grants from organizations such as the Open Society Foundations and the Ford Foundation. While it has received funding from government-affiliated institutions like the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), ADHRF operates independently and is governed by its own board of directors.
